"Carnival of Love" is a beautiful, powerful memoir that is both distinctly Bahamian and transcends culture, time, and place as a story of family, struggle, love, and belonging. Ernestia Fraser is such a gifted writer with how she offers truthful and gentle reflections on life's events and life's lessons. I believe that part of what makes her writing so special is the way it makes people feel seen and understood. It is a gift and I truly feel her writing helps make the world a better place.
Ernestia's 'Carnival of Love' creates a truly immersive experience. It's not simply a story, but a carefully crafted atmosphere that draws the reader in, allowing one to feel deeply connected to the narrative. There's a quiet strength in the way she builds her world.
'Shallow Waters' proved to be a genuinely inspiring read. It offered a thoughtful exploration of its themes and left a lasting impression. There's a sense of awe in her writing that resonates.
My nieces thoroughly enjoyed Ernestia's 'I Am Loved.' The gentle cadence and affirmations within the book held their attention, making it a pleasant and meaningful reading experience for them.
I am so excited to see what Ernestia creates next. Her ability to craft engaging stories is evident, and I can't wait to share the artistry of her books with everyone.
It was a pleasure reading Shallow Waters. This book took your imagination on a exciting adventure; it was also descriptive leaving the reader hanging on to every word with each turn of the page. I am looking forward to more books being created by this awesome young lady.
It has been both a delight and an honor to immerse myself in the brilliant literary works of Author Ernestia Fraser. From the heartfelt depth of Carnival of Love and Shallow Waters to the adventurous spirit of The Island of Shelbie Mott, each story is a testament to Fraserโs remarkable storytelling ability. Her works, including I Am Loved, Pray with Me, and Read with Me, beautifully capture themes of love, faith, family, and resilience, resonating deeply with readers of all backgrounds.
Ms. Fraserโs writing is both captivating and thought-provoking, offering a rich exploration of family dynamics, self-discovery, and the beauty of creative expression. I wholeheartedly recommend her books to all Bahamians and anyone seeking stories filled with adventure, inspiration, and positivity. Her literary contributions are truly a gift to readers everywhere!
I presented "Carnival of Love" as an essential part of a summer reading program to strengthen struggling students' reading skills. As students engaged with the story, they formed strong connections with specific characters, such as Benny and Zoe, enhancing their reading experience. Maria, the central character, not only stood out for her uniqueness but also profoundly resonated with the students and me, reflecting our identities. Ernestia Fraser skillfully conveyed her past experiences through a 109-page narrative, delivering a powerful tale of resilience in the face of adversity. The portrayal of a large, interconnected family unit cohabiting under one roof, relying on each other for support, served as a poignant embodiment of the core values of Bahamian culture, with even the elements of gossiping being embraced and enjoyed by some students. However, the most poignant aspect of the narrative was the portrayal of the trials and tribulations experienced by Maria, effectively conveying to the students that these experiences are not isolated but universal. This book is a valuable asset for young readers, providing literary enrichment and invaluable life lessons. Furthermore, it holds significant value for parents who may doubt their achievements or efforts; I hope that Maria's letter to her parents serves as a poignant testament to the contrary, showing that children always appreciate their parents' efforts.
It gives me great pleasure to post this review of โCarnival of Loveโ by Ernestia Fraser in her guest book. Carnival of Love is a delightful and honest glance into Bahamian life from the aspect of a family who has struggled economically and in many other ways, but whose pride and perseverance has taken them way above many others who might have had more opportunity. Carnival of Love is so well written with such descriptive prose. The author possesses a remarkable insight into human nature. She cleverly uses the senses of sight, sound, touch and even taste and smell to effectively draw us into her colourful scenes. She portrays many aspects of Bahamian culture, including the humorous and not so humorous. She shows warm, binding family relationships and what it means to be part of a large family with many siblings. It is clear that Maria truly loves her parents, brothers and sisters, continually trying to reconcile everyone. I enjoyed every part of this warm memoir and highly recommend it as a great read!
