It gives me great pleasure to post this review of “Carnival of Love” by Ernestia Fraser in her guest book. Carnival of Love is a delightful and honest glance into Bahamian life from the aspect of a family who has struggled economically and in many other ways, but whose pride and perseverance has taken them way above many others who might have had more opportunity. Carnival of Love is so well written with such descriptive prose. The author possesses a remarkable insight into human nature. She cleverly uses the senses of sight, sound, touch and even taste and smell to effectively draw us into her colourful scenes. She portrays many aspects of Bahamian culture, including the humorous and not so humorous. She shows warm, binding family relationships and what it means to be part of a large family with many siblings. It is clear that Maria truly loves her parents, brothers and sisters, continually trying to reconcile everyone. I enjoyed every part of this warm memoir and highly recommend it as a great read!
